Ms. Fletcher addressing the participants

The Industrial Liaison Department of GCTU in collaboration with Melt Water School of Africa (MEST) has organized a seminar on entrepreneurial skills for students on Tuesday, 27th February 2024 at Florence Onny Auditorium, Tesano campus.

The seminar was an opportunity for student entrepreneurs and young aspiring ones to join the UNICEF Startup Lab which is a six-month accelerator to empower entrepreneurs dedicated to social impact and tech-driven solutions.

In a presentation delivered at the seminar, the Project Associate of MEST Africa and Resource Person, Ms. Rhoda Fletcher stated, that since the launch of the programme in 2019, the Lab has supported over 50 startups in building products, developing and strengthening their business operations.

The Lab has also been communicating and growing relationships with users, partners and funders as well as providing prototype funding. “The Lab has played a pivotal role in the successful discovery and development of four Digital Public Goods in Ghana,” she said.

Ms. Fletcher noted, that the programme is led by UNICEF in Ghana, supported by KOICA and implemented by MEST Africa. She added that the UNICEF Startup Lab provides a unique product by integrating business incubation and wide-reaching technical expertise and systems knowledge in the social sector, amplified by the reach of UNICEF’s and KOICA’s partnerships.

“While participating in the programme, you will find and connect with UNICEF programmes including Health, Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Social Protection,” she indicated.
